What are you scared to lose?

I recently had a deep thought about my life.

I asked myself this important question.

What am I scared to lose?

While the answer might be apparent, like my life, family, and the like. These options seemed quite normal, but I wanted something different from the norm.

Something I could have 100% control over.

It didn’t get to me at first, but I kept asking what and why.

In the end, I figured it out.

It’s the power to make my own choices, especially in my career.

Why Is This Important To Me?

It’s incredible why this is important to me.

I have seen people suffer because of their careers. They make choices they do not like. They lose control. They are working jobs they hate. They struggle to get up from bed daily to prepare for the day’s work. They cannot imagine living another day on the job that puts food on their table.

Could there have been something they could have done about it? Maybe? Maybe not.

I do not want to find myself in this boat. I want to control where I spend a significant amount of my time. Over 2,080 active working hours per year is no joke.

What I Do About It

I Get Better Daily

My goal is to get better daily to stay relevant in my career. I do not want to find myself in situations where I would be at the mercy of employers to run my life.

Having the power to make my career choices is critical for my happiness and growth.

I Keep My Options Open

The job market is consistently changing. What is relevant today may not be relevant tomorrow.

Machines are constantly replacing humans in the workforce. So, what happens if machines replace your role today? Where would you go?

While it’s a great idea to be a master at a craft, you also need to be good at a few other roles or tasks if you need to pivot your career. Do not be afraid to take on something new to develop your skills.

I Dream BIG

Dreaming big is non-negotiable in this world where it seems nothing counts. To become the person you truly want to be, you need to set your bar high and constantly challenge yourself

I want to evolve constantly. I want to grow daily and set goals to keep me challenged. It’s not about the goals or the challenges, and really, it’s the slight improvements that come with it daily. Having big goals keep you busy. You get better when pursuing your goals.

I Prepare And Plan For The Future

You can hardly go wrong with preparation. It gives you the time you need to plan what is to come. When you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. Lack of planning and preparation can quickly set you up for failure.

It’s incredible how many of us undermine the power of preparation. We fail to harness its true power of it. We see it coming, yet we go into hibernate mode like we don’t.

I always think about my future goals and ensure I work towards them. You should do the same.

Final thoughts

Everyone has one thing or another that we are too scared to lose or give up. Mine is losing the power to make my own choices.

I don’t want to make important choices or decisions because of unpalatable circumstances. I want to control where I work, what I do, and where I live. I am not asking for much. These are just essential things to me.

What are you afraid to give up, what do you protect the most, and how do you ensure you don’t lose this ability?

Whatever you fear losing, do what you can to protect it. Life happens, and it may not be as you wish, but the good news is that you did your best.

What are you scared to lose?

Whatever you’re scared of losing, I want you to think about why it’s important to you. What would life be like without it?

Why do you need it in your life?

Once you’ve thought about that, I want you to write down three things you can do to reduce the risk of losing whatever scares you.

This action will help you do your part to reduce the risk.

It’s a difficult step to take, but it’s essential.

Confront your fears, face them, and be prepared for the things that might slip off your hands. Either way, you tried your best to take care of your part.

Don’t panic.

Acknowledge and take action immediately.
