Today’s post is about burnout.
Burnout is not fun.
You are at risk as a career professional.
With the need to find a fulfilling career and a job that pays you what you want, coupled with the demands and expectations of your job, it can be overwhelming to keep on top of everything in your career and personal life.
Burnout is not something we wish or hope for, but it happens.
Here’s what you need to do to prevent it.
#1. Recognise the signs
Catch the signs early.
The best strategy is to recognise the signs of burnout as early as possible.
Often, these might come with some symptoms, such as headaches, body aches and stress.
In my case, I would have headaches and feel ridiculously tired, and I know it’s time to take a break.
Recognising the signs early will help you prevent burnout.
#2. Pay attention to your body
Your body is a thermometer that informs you about your well-being.
You need to listen to it.
While busy chasing the best things for yourself and your career, you must also pay attention to your body and recognise its signals.
Be self-aware and listen to your body to help you prevent getting burnt out from work.
#3. Accept it is happening
If you are already experiencing burnout, then the first step is to recognise and accept that it is already happening.
After all, we are all humans, and these things happen.
Not accepting this reality might lead to disaster.
Acceptance is an important step in solving a problem
When you accept you are experiencing burnout, you find it easier to find solutions and speak to the right professionals who will help you heal faster.
#4. Know your limits
Knowing your limits will keep you sane.
I often remember when I have to stop working to take a break, walk, or spend time in nature. These are some of my strategies to disconnect.
Understand when you hit your limits and take a break to refresh.
Closing thoughts
Your health is your responsibility.
No matter how much you love your job or career, this should not take over your health.
Your health comes.
Without good health, it’s almost impossible to have a great career.
So don’t place more importance on your career than your health.
It’s your responsibility to look after your health.
If you don’t, no one will.
Certainly not even your employer.
The best strategy to keep going and live a life you truly want and enjoy is to avoid burnout.
Your health is your responsibility.
Place it above everything else.
